Fanfiction

I started writing fanfiction in 1995, around the time the internet started becoming popular. Since then, I've found that writing fanfiction is an excellent way to develop an on-line fan base, as well as to gain valuable criticism regarding writing styles and character development. It's wonderfully satisfying to know that the things you are writing are being enjoyed by people all over the world, and I've received e-mail from places as far away as Italy, Poland, Finland, Japan, and Australia commenting on my stories.

What is Fanfiction? Fanfiction (or fanfic) are stories based on the characters of an existing television show, ,movie, book, or other media. These stories are written by fans, without permission from the media’s creators, and often include invented characters that join the original characters in a continuation of the plot. Why do I write Fanfiction? I write fanfiction based on two shows: a Japanese anime called “Sailor Moon”, and an American science-fiction show for young adults called “Space Cases”. I find writing fanfiction is a great way to practice writing, and establishing what reader enjoy reading. I have been posting fanfiction since 1995, under the alias “Azura” or “Queen Azura”, and the stories I’ve written enjoy a bit of celebrity among young on-line readers. I use this fan base not only to gain insight on how to improve my skills, but also to test out original story ideas and sample chapters.

What is “Sailor Moon”? “Sailor Moon” is a Japanese cartoon (called “anime”), created by Takeuchi Naoko. which aired in Japan between 1992 and 1997. It is the story of a group of teenage girls who acquire magical powers to battle various evil beings who desire to rule the world. The series spans 5 seasons, consists of 200 episodes, and is one of the largest on-line fan communities. Here is are some samples of some of the Sailor Moon fanfiction I've written. What is “Space Cases”? “Space Cases” is an American show, produced by Nickelodeon, that aired for two seasons between 1996 and 1997 for 26 episodes. The plot revolves around a group of misfit students who sneak out of school on a mysterious space ship and are transported across the galaxy. The show documents their journey home, but was cancelled before they reached home. Nevertheless, the show has a small but strong cult following on-line.
